Cadmium-free Buffer Layer for CIGS
Cd-free CIGS solar cells are made with a Zn(O,S) buffer layer by using ALD coating technology. Efficiencies of
these cells meet or exceed the performance of traditional CIGS solar cells based on a CdS buffer layer. Tailored Zn(O,S)
layers enabled by ALD technology provide optimum solutions for each specific CIGS process flow and the high throughput
production ALD systems from Beneq can be integrated effectively to the overall factory flow.
• ALD Zn(O,S) is a superior buffer layer in CIGS; 1%-unit higher efficiency than conventional CdS
• Conformal coating: covers effectively the polycrystalline surface structure
• Possibility to optimize the S/O content of the film easily; even separately at the interface and in the bulk
• Enhanced blocking of the pin-holes of the CIGS
• High throughput TFS 1200 production in-line ALD systems, up to 24 substrates (0.6x1.2m2)/hr or up to 12 substrates (1.2x1.2m2)/hr.
• High throughput TFS series production batch coating systems, up to 240 substrates (0.6x1.2m2)/hr or up to 120 substrates (1.2x1.2m2)/hr.
